Tecumseh is an unincorporated community in eastern Shawnee County, and was named for the famous Shawnee Indian Chief.  It dates from the 1850’s and at one time served as the prosouthern capital of the territory and even had it’s own newspaper. It is home to a large Kansas Power & Light Co. plant that was built in 1924 & 1925 at the same time that a Du Pont cellophane plant was established. It is a popular area in the Shawnee Heights School District.
